Celebrating Christmas Away From Home
It seems to be a national belief that the best way to spend Christmas
is at home: movies, songs, and books are devoted to the trials and tribulations
people go through in order to be home for the holidays. A new trend is
emerging though, rather than going through the stress of planning a holiday
at home, many Americans are picking up their families and going exploring.
Since college students have a huge break over the holidays many parents
seize the chance to take a last, meaningful family vacation with their
child before they move off into the work world. Most people do have break
time around the holidays; the kids are off school and adults have vacation
days to use up: why not travel? People say that home is where the heart
is, but as long as you have the people you care about along with you,
vacationing is a perfect way to relax over the holidays and get away
from the stress of holiday obligations at home. Take advantage of collective
time off and go for it.
If you start looking early you can always find better travel rates.
Travel agents can help plan the best trip for you or you can research
on your own. Whatever you do, make sure there are activities to please
everyone who’s coming along. If you are bringing the kids, look
for Santa-related activities or child-specific events, and if grandma
and grandpa are coming along, check out the historical things to do.
There are the typical holiday spots like New York, London, or Paris,
but this guide attempts to find some of the lesser-known places that
offer a great vacation. Keep in mind that you don’t have to travel
far to do something different for Christmas. Your own town probably has
special Christmas festivals, activities, markets, and so forth if you
just look for them. Also, you can always take a day trip with the kids
or with the one you love. This is a great escape from the stress of planning
and gift buying. Make it a day dedicated to those you love since that
is the original spirit of Christmas.
